織田信長のエリート家臣団「赤母衣衆(あかほろしゅう)」の一人、金森長近が築城した越前大野城。天正4年から4年の歳月を要し完成した当時は、2層3階建ての大天守、2層2階の小天守、二の丸、三の丸があり、外堀・内堀をめぐらし、城を守っていました。石垣は野面積みという工法で積まれており、県指定文化財になっております。現在の城は、昭和43年に再建されたもので、城内には歴代城主の遺品などが展示されています。
現在は気象条件によっては晩秋から春にかけて、大野盆地全体が雲海につつまれ、越前大野城だけが浮かんで見える幻想的な景色が見られることから「天空の城越前大野城」としても注目され、また、続日本100名城に選定されたことから、多くの人で賑わっています。
Echizen Ono Castle was built by Kanamori Nagachika, one of Oda Nobunaga's elite vassals “Akahoroshu (Akahoroshu).” At the time it took 4 years from Tensho 4 to complete, there were 2- and 3-story large tenshu, 2- and 2-story small tenshu, Ninomaru, and Sannomaru, and they protected the castle by going around the outer moat and inner moat. Ishigaki is built using a construction method called field area, and is a cultural property designated by the prefecture. The current castle was rebuilt in Showa 43, and relics of successive castle lords are displayed inside the castle.
Currently, depending on weather conditions, from late fall to spring, the entire Ono Basin is surrounded by a sea of clouds, and the fantastic scenery where only Echizen Ono Castle can be seen floating can be seen, so it is also attracting attention as the “castle in the sky, Echizen Ono Castle,” and since it was selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles, it is crowded with many people.
