美濃加茂市出身の坪内逍遥博士の像が美濃太田駅南口のロータリーにあります。
逍遥博士は、イギリスの劇作家・シェイクスピアの作品を日本で初めて翻訳したことで知られています。
美濃加茂市には、逍遥博士が作詞した校歌や、逍遥博士の活躍を広く知っていただくために、演劇や舞台で活躍した人や団体を表彰する「坪内逍遥大賞」などのイベントを行っています。
There is a statue of Dr. Shoyo Tsubouchi from Minokamo City on the roundabout at the south exit of Mino-Ota Station.
Dr. Shoyo is known for being the first in Japan to translate works by English playwright Shakespeare.
In Minokamo City, events such as the school song written by Dr. Shoyo and the “Tsubouchi Shoyo Grand Prize” are held to recognize people and groups active in theater and stage so that Dr. Shoyo's activities are widely known.
