相良家７００年の本拠の城跡で現在は石垣のみが残る。別名「繊月城」と呼ばれ、球磨川と胸川を天然の外堀とした中世の山城。天守閣は存在しないが、「川の城」にふさわしい水の手門、「はねだし（武者返し）」の石垣は全国的にも珍しく、2006年に日本百名城の一つに選ばれている。
It is the site of the castle where the Sagara family was founded in 700 years, and currently only Ishigaki remains. Also known as “Sengetsu Castle,” it is a medieval mountain castle with natural outer moats on the Kuma River and Mochi River. There is no castle tower, but the “hanedashi (warrior return)” stone wall, a water gate suitable for a “river castle,” is rare nationwide, and was selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles in 2006.
